Berberis thunbergii Atropurpurea Nana
Height: 0,2–0,3 m
Atropurpurea Nana is a small, deciduous, thorny shrub that grows to about 0.5 m in height and 0.4-0.5 m in width, with a dense system of shoots. Its leaves are rounded, broadly lance-shaped, greenish burgundy, turning bright red in autumn. The flowers are small and yellow. They bloom singly or in clusters of a few flowers in April or May. Its fruit is a red, slightly elongated berry. It can be planted in a sunny or partially shaded spot. Its water needs are moderate; it should be watered only in small amounts during drought. It requires well-draining, nutrient-rich soil. It has low maintenance requirements and tolerates urban conditions very well. It flowers and bears fruit on shoots grown the previous year. It is worth pruning after flowering, but it does not require regular pruning. It can be planted together with other perennial and evergreen plants.
